Packing perishable food, wet boxes, smashed cupcakes, and rotten steaks come to mind when you think about sending food? It's time to shake things up a little bit.

Your business depends on the goods arriving as fresh as the day they were captured or developed, whether you're a fisher transporting live lobsters direct from the trap, a cake artist icing your latest unique creation - or a cookie dough entrepreneur offering a variety of exquisite flavors.

Extreme temperatures, humidity, staleness, and even rotting are among issues to consider while exporting perishable food.

Moving supplies, insulation and refrigeration are essential for keeping food shipments fresh; they keep heat and moisture out and cool temperatures in.

Keep in mind the restrictions when packing perishables food

Is it okay if I bring perishables?

You may be able to pack perishables and food if your journey is fewer than 150 kilometers. If this is the case, speak with your move coordinator for more information. Otherwise, plan to eat or give your food away before moving day.

Is it okay if I bring frozen food?

Perishable food is subject to non-allowable regulations. You can inquire with your move coordinator about solutions for frozen items transportation in the refrigerator. Be aware that, even if a third-party solution is available, it may not be cost-effective.

Is it okay if I bring canned goods?

You can transport canned products, but you need to think about whether it is cost-effective. Canned products are normally affordable, but because they are heavy and expensive to transport, you may end up paying more to transport them than to replace them.

Is it okay if I bring dry goods?

The good news is that your dry products are easy to transport. Pasta, cereals, grains, herbs, sauces, baking materials, and so on may all be safely transported; even open boxes can be carried if properly prepped and packaged.

The most important thing to remember is to use tape to seal all open packages. Tape should also be used to seal containers such as saltshakers and herbs. Spices, for example, should be collected and placed in a small box before being packed into a bigger box of dry items.
